About this project
The rural population (mostly descendants of former slaves) lives off subsistence farming. Their traditional and resource-conserving way of life is increasingly under threat from mega-projects in the mining, energy and agribusiness sectors. The project’s objectives are to ensure that people can remain on their ancestral land, to defend rights and a traditional way of life in regions threatened by land grabbing, to promote agroecological farming practices, and to raise awareness of these issues within mainstream society. The project reaches 2,370 people. Project activities include legal advice (assistance with land disputes), networking activities, the prevention of slave-like working conditions, improvements in production in terms of both quantity and quality, the drafting of consultation protocols (ILO 169), exchange meetings and public relations work.
