About this project
The project area is characterized by massive socioeconomic inequalities, land conflicts, and environmental pressures, which are exacerbated in particular by expanding mining, agribusiness, and the privatization of natural resources. Affected communities—including smallholder farmers, indigenous groups, and Quilombolas—face land loss, water insecurity, and threats to their ways of life. Government policies and economic interests often favor large corporations, thereby increasing social conflicts and violence in rural areas. The project implementer supports affected people through political education, legal counseling, and the promotion of networking, with a particular focus on empowering women and youth. The project aims to strengthen the resilience and capacity for action of approximately 1,100 families in rural communities as well as in water and forest regions. Local leaders are specifically trained and connected to ensure their political and organizational autonomy. In addition, agroecological practices are being established that contribute to food sovereignty, climate resilience, and the preservation of traditional ways of life. The measures include analyses of mining projects, the promotion of dialogue and public outreach, training sessions and workshops, as well as the implementation and strengthening of agroecological initiatives and the solidarity economy.
