About this project

The project addresses the high levels of food insecurity resulting from drought, soil degradation and a lack of prospects for young people. The population in the project region, numbering around 6,000 people, relies predominantly on small-scale farming and has only limited access to infrastructure, education and healthcare. The aim of the project is to establish agroecology regionally, strengthen food sovereignty and sustainably consolidate local structures. The project is primarily aimed at smallholder families, young people and volunteer promoters, approximately 40% are members of indigenous communities. Key project activities include training, technical support, knowledge-sharing, youth organisation, the promotion of agroecological production and local networking. Under the chosen approach, young people receive land from their parents to farm. Various formats foster exchange and solidarity amongst them, whilst sustainable farming practices enable higher crop yields and improve financial prospects.
