About this project
Today's food systems are designed to produce/market/consume cheap, starchy calories for a growing world population. However, the concerns of the 21st century are the intersections of chronic diseases, improved but continuing food insecurity, undernutrition, and sustainability. This requires a fundamental transformation of food systems to meet evolving and future needs of consumers, producers, and the resource base on which all life depends. Agroecological principles are increasingly seen as being able, or even necessary, to achieve such transformation of food systems (HLPE 2019) and increase resilience to climatic shocks. However, there are various barriers to an agroecological transition at scale at the micro (Farm and watershed scale), meso (District and regional scale) and macro (State, National and Global scale).
