About this project
Although Liberia has fertile land and a favorable climate for agriculture, many people in Liberia continue to suffer from food insecurity and malnutrition because the country's food and agricultural systems are inefficient. Chronic food insecurity is on the rise in Liberia due to poverty, gender inequalities, land constraints, unsustainable living conditions and low agricultural production and productivity. One in three children under the age of 5 in Liberia are stunted or too short for their age, because of not getting nutritious food over a long period of time, and frequent bouts of illness. The project aims to adopt a food system approach with emphasis on institutional strengthening to promote the cultivation of orange fleshed sweet potato.
