About this project

After a long-term engagement with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) between 1994 and 2008, BRC re-started support to NRCS in 2016 and has had a permanent presence in Nigeria (office and Country Manager) since January 2019. Following discussions with the BRC Nigeria Office, NRCS adopted a 3-pillar business model, which serves as guidance to NRCS and their partners on how to best develop and support the National Society: Pillar 1 Providing RC services on community level (no donor funding) Pillar 2 Maintaining capacity to absorb funding and technical expertise Pillar 3 Exploiting commercial opportunities In 2019, BRC plans to support the NRCS’ development plan in the following ways : 1. Support the Nigeria Red Cross Society in their institutional development with the view to build a strong and independent NS (i.e., strengthening pillars 1 and 2) 2. Support the NRCS in the development of their commercial activities with the objective to enable the NS to fund at least their core costs through income generating activities (i.e., strengthening pillar 3) 3. Other support according to possible changes of NRCS strategic and operational priorities, allowing for interactive discussions with NRCS, leaving room for adaptation to changing need
