About this project
On the morning of 28th February 2026, the US and Israel launched major airstrikes inside Iran, killing senior military leaders as well as Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei. Iran subsequently launched large‑scale missile and drone attacks against Israel and US bases across the Gulf. Impacts of the escalation have been felt across the region, primarily Lebanon, as well as Iraq, all Gulf states (Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, United Arab Emirates) Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Oman, Syria, occupied Palestinian territory, Cyprus, Turkiye, and Azerbaijan. The escalation has resulted in large numbers of fatalities and injuries, particularly in Iran, Lebanon, and Israel, and mass displacement across Iran and Lebanon. An IFRC Emergency Appeal has been launched for Iran, with funding requirements of CHF 40 million. Lebanese Red Cross have launched a Conflict Preparedness and Response Plan, with funding requirements of USD 14 million. DREF allocations have been made to Iran, Iraq, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, with applications also submitted for Lebanon and Jordan.
