About this project
The World Met Organization among other credible Global Climate outlooks have issued an alert of possible “super” El Nino season that will affect (among other parts of the world), Eastern and Southern Africa. From the forecasted information, the season is likely to start as early as May or June 2026 up to the end of 2026. A super El Nino will lead to severe dry conditions in the southern parts of Africa and enhanced rainfall in the Eastern part of Africa. This will lead to drought like conditions and possible heavy flooding in the Eastern part of Africa BRC will provide funding through the Disaster Fund to enable Kenya RC, Eswatini RC and Somalia RC to enhance their preparedness and readiness to reduce the impact of the El Nino effects projected to manifest from August 2026 This programme combines life-saving response to ongoing crises with early action and preparedness to mitigate the anticipated effects of El Niño. It will enable National Societies to meet immediate needs while strengthening readiness for forecast shocks, ensuring faster, more effective and locally led humanitarian action across the region.
