About this project

For women in El Salvador, there are limited options for generating income. Women tend to do housework or work in maquilas, exposing them to precarious jobs. In the rural context, this is even more complex as women have even less opportunities and face greater marginalisation. Lack of land ownership, a limited asset base and limited access to economic opportunities are also important factors that contribute to their exclusion. Further, women are more vulnerable to food insecurity due to the impact of climate shocks and stressors in their livelihoods. This project will holistically work with the following themes: - Food security and care for the natural environment. - Community microfinance for women and financial literacy in a safe environment: saving groups, cooperative groups - Economic enterprises for income generation in initiatives led by women. - Awareness-raising and training for gender equality - Community organisation and inclusive leadership The project will work with 580 households (including 393 adult women and 153 under 18 girls/young women) from municipal & San Antonio del Monte in dept. of Sonsonate. All in the occident of ELS. The strategies of the project involve promotion of agroecology, saving groups, entrepreneurial initiatives and women cooperatives. Outcome 1: 30 women…
