About this project
The "Empowering Futures" project is a strategic intervention designed to ensure the retention of vulnerable children in school and enhance household economic resilience in the Ebu Pottery Community, Ilorin East, Kwara State. While recent government efforts (KWARA LEARN) have successfully re-enrolled thousands of out-of-school children (OOSC), significant barriers remain dilapidated school infrastructure, a critical lack of sanitation facilities, and pervasive household poverty. CAFOD, in partnership with JDPM Ilorin, proposes a holistic, three-year strategy that links improvements in the learning environment (fencing, toilets, furniture) directly with economic strengthening for 100–125 families (through pottery cooperatives and VSLA models). This approach is designed for sustainability and will mitigate the need for parents to choose between a child's education and household income. This project is designed to be implemented in phases for 3 years targeting different thematic focus for each year.
