About this project

The Strengthening Inclusive Climate Action and Livelihoods through Eco-Friendly Briquettes (SICAL) in FCT project responds to rising climate change impacts, deforestation, high household energy costs, and limited livelihood opportunities for vulnerable groups in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Many low-income households rely on firewood and traditional charcoal, contributing to environmental degradation and indoor air pollution that disproportionately affects women and children. At the same time, women, youth, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and smallholder farmers face exclusion from sustainable economic opportunities. The project will directly support 20 women, 10 youth, 10 persons with disabilities, and 10 smallholder farmers through training, enterprise development, and inclusive participation in eco-friendly briquette production and value chains. Agricultural waste will be converted into affordable, clean cooking fuel, reducing dependence on firewood while creating green jobs. Key activities include capacity building on briquette production and enterprise management, disability-inclusive development training, tree planting, support for climate-resilient agriculture, advocacy with relevant government institutions, and community awareness on climate risks aligned with the National Climate Change Policy (NCCP). Expected outcomes include reduced household fuel expenditure, improved respiratory health through lower smoke exposure, increased incomes for beneficiaries,…
