About this project
The project is a pilot and will be hosted by two chiefdoms-Nongowa and Dama; It will target 210 direct project participants in 10 villages in the two chiefdoms (5 villages per chiefdom). The project works with 21 household farmers per village as direct participants consisting them into registered farmer-based groups/organizations and incorporated into a VSLA scheme, which scheme will serve as a basis for the formation of a cooperative organisation later. The main aim of the VSLA or the cooperative organization will be to act as a common space where local farmer groups can easily access market information, pool their capital together for larger investment through their shared capital and to help them leverage their position and create synergy of their actions in the Market system. At least five value chain actors will be identified along the value chain to collaborate with the farmers. In order to enhance the capacity of both the farmers and other actors, at least four TOT trainings will be conducted in market system development, resource mobilization and entrepreneurship. TOT trainings will also be conducted in agroecology principles and practices and VSLA. This pilot initiative will improve the coordination and strengthen the capacity of value chain actors and provide support and capacity for local farmers and in turn ensure access to farming materials, loans, farming & business skills by facilitating processes that enhance such actions.
