About this project

The intended impact of DEFRA's OCEAN funding line is to place the ocean on a path to recovery, enabling local communities and nature to thrive. OCEAN aims to achieve this impact by supporting local solutions to local problems that help communities manage marine resources sustainably, effectively, and inclusively, and through using evidence and best practices to reduce multi-dimensional poverty. OCEAN also expects to realise cross-cutting co-benefits including promoting Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) and tackling climate change mitigation and supporting climate change adaptation. The WAVES project under OCEAN enhances community resilience and sustainable livelihoods in Myanmar’s coastal areas by integrating mangrove conservation, ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM), and Sustainable Mangrove-Based Livelihoods (SMBL). It focuses on reducing poverty while improving the health of marine and coastal ecosystems.
