About this project

ZELA's work reaches marginalised and remote resource rich communities at risk and seeks to promote environmental justice, sustainable and equitable use of natural resources, democracy and good governance in the natural resources and environmental sector. ZELA was formed in 2000 and was legally constituted as a Trust in November 2001 under Notarial Deed of Trust MA1669/2001. ZELA’s work is evidence based (mostly through research and publications), transformative in nature and mostly locally led, and it involves advocacy, leadership, and coordination of civil society efforts on promoting good governance, equality, justice and rights based approached, anchored on a core group of rights that are reflective of natural resources governance namely Environmental, Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (EESCR). We value community and general stakeholder accountability, and we are in the process of upgrading our institutional accountability mechanisms to strategically position for sustainable growth in the prevailing challenging context, that has the COVID pandemic, still prevailing. ZELA has now under the new Law registered as Zimbabwe Environmental Law Organization (ZELO) Registration mummer PVO 42/24
