About this project

The HOPE Project (Holistic Partnerships for Empowering Women) is an integrated, community-led initiative implemented by Beacon of Hope (BOH) in strategic partnership with Christian Aid Ireland, now significantly expanded through co-funding. This initiative will empower 300 marginalized women and adolescent girls across the informal settlements of Dagoretti and Kibera in Nairobi, Kenya, deepening impact and fostering systemic change. The project confronts the interlinked crises of extreme poverty, pervasive gender-based violence (GBV), and climate vulnerability by enabling women to build resilient livelihoods through climate-smart urban agriculture, value-chain integration, and collective enterprise. Critically, this enhanced phase addresses a key gap: the lack of documented evidence and community-led advocacy needed to shift policies and social norms in urban informal settlements. The project will also integrate short-term market-driven skills training in sectors such as beauty and hairdressing, food technology, and basic ICT, ensuring at least 25% of participants particularly young women, teenage mothers, and GBV survivors gain employable skills to diversify income sources and reduce economic dependency.
