About this project

According to the research from International Labour Organisation (ILO) and monitoring report, Lao PDR is superior to other ASEAN members, despite the fact that there are various reasons why social protection is inadequate in our nation. In particular, the coverage of the existing social protection system is limited, informal workers and their families do not have access to the social security system and social protection, the employers do not contribute effectively, there is gender inequality and governmental budget contribution is insufficient, etc. Another factor that is still the most challenging is that the minimum wage that was announced is notsuitable for the current increasing cost of living. The mentioned circumstances and issues play major role in the small production group’s exploitation in terms of rights and interests, lack of fair production, lack of effective protection, fostering distrust inthe market and increasing rate of migrant labours. This issue also directly affects the labourshortage, investment promotion, manufacturing strategy, marketing plan and various source of income. Therefore, ASDSP proposes this project to improve the social protection and restore the implementation of the ILO (R 202) guidelines.
