CO-Triple Nexus approach in Somalia

About this project

The project will be implemented in the Ainabo and Garowe districts of Sool and Nugal regions, reaching 200,000 people (60% women and youth to cover up to 25%). Oxfam will partner with Candlelight and KAALO, Oxfam’s long-term local partners working on humanitarian, resilience-building and climate/environment programmes with presence in the target areas. The target beneficiaries are pastoralist and agro-pastoralist communities affected by frequent droughts, necessitating a Humanitarian-Development-PeaceNexus intervention which not only addresses the immediate but also long-term needs, and offers alternatives for sustainable recovery and community-levelpeacebuilding. The proposed project will focus on providing support to the most vulnerable groups - Internally Displaced Persons and host communities. Beneficiary selection is based on an agreed vulnerability criteria i.e., women, children, the elderly, people with disabilities and youth. The selection of these specific groups is based on their increasedvulnerabilities especially during crisis. Oxfam seeks to address the vulnerability of women and girls through various empowerment initiatives, involving them in decision making platforms and strengthening their coping mechanisms and raising awareness of the protection risks at community level.
