About this project

Scalling-Up is a development initiative aimed at contributing to the resilience of rural populations in the face of food insecurityand the effects of climate change. Therefore, the first step will be to promote access to land by young people and women vulnerableto food insecurity. This will stimulate the need to secure land for the benefit of the target people. Ranked 186th among the 189 countries with a multidimensional poverty index, Chad is experiencing emerging land (tenure) crises intrinsically linked to the country's other crises (security, political, social, economic, etc.). As problems of secure access to land become increasingly difficult,land conflicts are also becoming more severe, with a great sense of land insecurity for most of the rural, and urban and peri-urbanpopulation. In Chad, between 85% and 90% of court cases are related to land disputes at various levels. Land conflicts are very often at the root of the deadly inter and intra-community clashes which are very frequent in the country. The livelihoods of the most vulnerable groups are negatively impacted due to: (i) land speculation and land grabbing carried out with total impunity; (ii) increased pressures on land capital due to population pressure (in some localities); (iii) climate change and humanitarian crises (refugees and internally displaced persons).
