About this project

The prolonged and complex nature of Somalia's emergencies is underlined by a multifaceted interplay of political, economic, social,and environmental factors—such as drought, floods, conflict, and fragile governance. These factors not only continue to erode the social, institutional, and environmental foundations of Somali communities but also significantly negatively impact the country's resilience and efforts toward food security. This intricate scenario defines the current programmatic landscape in Somalia, demonstrating how these intertwined challenges contribute to the ongoing crises and hinder the development of sustainable solutions. The Sool region to be targeted by this project, has experienced prolonged conflict with the Somaliland regional government, leading to a declaration of separation and the aspiration to become an independent state within the Federal government. The conflict's aftermath is evident in the number of people residing in IDP camps. In the pastoral regions of El Afweyn, households have been severely affected by an extended drought, leading to a significant decline in their livestock, which are their primary source of income and livelihood.The pastoral and agro-pastoral regions of Togdheer and Bari in North Somalia also face significant challenges due to a combination of factors, including conflict and insecurity, chronic drought, and weak governance and natural resource management.
