About this project

The Community Health and Inclusion Association (CHIAs) is a leading Lao non-profit organization with a long-standing commitment to promoting health, well-being, and inclusive development for marginalized communities. Originally founded in 1999 as the LaoYouth AIDS Project (LYAP) and later registered as the Positive Health Association (LaoPHA), CHIA's rebranded in 2020 to reflect its expanded mission—moving beyond HIV/AIDS response to address broader health disparities, social inclusion, and community resilience. Today, CHIAs works with key and vulnerable populations, including LGBTQI+ communities, women and children, migrant workers, people living with diseases, and ethnic minorities, ensuring their access to healthcare, livelihood opportunities, and disaster risk reduction support. CHIAs takes a rights-based, participatory approach, partnering with government agencies, international organizations, and local communities to implement programs in health equity, economic empowerment, and climate resilience. A key focus is Community-Based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM), where CHIAs builds local capacity to identify risks, develop mitigation strategies, and strengthen preparedness for health and climate-related crises.
