About this project

Empowered communities, improved stakeholder cooperation and synergised planning for restoration of riverscapes in Meghna-Barak River Basin, providing a learning opportunity on how multi-level stakeholder cooperation can result in inclusive, sustainable, and ecosystem-based river governance. Specific Objectives • Identify competing interests and synergies among communities, government, and private sector actors to build consensus on sustainable river governance. • Co-develop inclusive People’s River Plans that reflect community knowledge, technical analysis, and responsible private sector roles. • Establish sustained dialogue platforms and build local capacity to implement river restoration plans and foster regional cooperation. • Strengthen nationalinstitutions to integrate community perspectives into planning and align with the UN Water Convention. Project Phases: The project will run for 12 months (November 2025 – October 2026), structured in three overlapping phases. While each phase contributesto specific outcomes, Outcome 4 (strengthening national institutions and aligning with the UN Water Convention) is cross- cutting and embedded throughout the project. National actors such as WARPO, the Joint Rivers Commission, BWDB, and relevant ministries will be engaged in each phase to ensure that participatory processes influence formal planning and regulatory frameworks at multiple levels.
