About this project

The main objective of the project is to enable female workers in the dried pineapple sector of Benin to have decent working conditions and to be empowered to advocate for their needs and priorities at company level, as the sector grows in the production and export of high quality dried pineapple to the EU market. This will be realised through the project interventions which will focus on three pathways – one targeting the exporting SMEs, one targeting their female workforce, and one that will begin later to promote an uptake of these good practices by more stakeholders in the sector – to achieve this. The agricultural sector is a key sector for the Beninese economy as it contributes an average of 33% of GDP, 75% of export earnings, 15% of government revenue and provides around 70% of jobs (PSRSA Evaluation Report, 2016). It is therefore the sector that has the highest potential to contribute to national economic growth and poverty reduction. Women play a significant role in the production, processing, and marketing of agricultural products.
