About this project
Because of outdated agricultural practices in Indonesia, which imply physical labour, much pollution and result in little income, many young people are leaving the rural areas. The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture has started the “Food Brigades” training programme, in which they train the young “Millennial Farmers” in modern, sustainable agriculture. This considers the use of high quality seeds, responsible use of water, pesticides and fertiliser, eventually leading to healthier working conditions, reduced environmental impact, better incomes and positive effects on biodiversity. In this project, the latest Dutch knowledge about horticulture is added to the Food Brigades training programme, which shall then be trained to the young farmer generation. Applying modern methods and technologies in agriculture is expected to result in improved local food production, which also reduces the need for imports such as from China.
