About this project

This activity supports the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum in strengthening electricity demand and load forecasting through the development of an updated modelling tool. The tool enables more accurate forecasting of electricity demand at national, regional and county levels, supporting strategic planning and policy decisions in Kenya’s rapidly evolving power sector. The updated model incorporates emerging demand trends such as e cooking, e-mobility, captive generation and mini grids, and provides short, medium and long term demand forecasts under different scenarios.By improving the understanding of future electricity demand in the context of increasing electrification, renewable energy integration and regional power interconnections, the tool will support key planning processes such as Kenya's Least Cost Power Development Plan and Integrated National Energy Plan.
