Impact Cluster: Improving access to pangasius vaccination, technology and knowledge

About this project

The project aims to enhance knowledge, expertise, and technology access in the pangasius and wider aquaculture sector of Vietnam's Mekong Delta. It focuses on training Vietnamese farmers through a "train-the-trainers" programme, introducing advanced technologies such as aquatic vaccines and real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) disease diagnostic tools, and promoting sustainable aquaculture practices.The project involves a consortium of Dutch, Vietnamese, and international partners including Fresh Studio, PHARMAQ Vietnam Company Ltd, Can Tho University, De Heus, Alpha Aqua, and Kytos.In terms of business case improvement and job creation, the project offers benefits to local partners. It will create new business opportunities and revenue streams, provide long-term jobs through training programmes, modernise the aquaculture curriculum, and create direct long-term job opportunities in skilled areas like water analysis and disease diagnostics. Targeting women in aquaculture production is emphasised, aiming for at least 20% female participation in the extension and coaching team.Overall, the project will enhance local partners' business cases, drive sector growth, and create sustainable long-term jobs, contributing to economic development and sustainability in Vietnam's aquaculture sector. The extension and coaching team formed during the project will continue as a commercial service post-project, offering ongoing support to the industry.
