About this project
Biosphere Solar is a Dutch startup that has developed a fully modular solar panel, making it easier to incorporate into recycling streams at the end of its lifespan than regular solar panels. This also offers the possibility to replace components in the interim. The status and origin of the various parts are tracked in a digital product passport.Nigeria is investing heavily in solar, but is simultaneously facing the issue of how difficult it is to reuse or recycle solar panels at the end of their lifespan.Biosphere therefore offers a solution to this. They are going to install a solar system in Nigeria, to demonstrate that the panels are competitive in terms of energy yield and, at the same time, to show the positive business case that having separate components entails. These panels have residual value because they are recyclable and replaceable.
