About this project

Membrane Systems Europe B.V. provides high-quality and efficient solutions for biogas storage and processing for the international biogas market. While a large amount of sisal is produced in Tanzania, there is also a significant amount of waste that is valuable. The proposed project involves investing in a facility for processing sisal waste using appropriate, cost-effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly technologies. The local client operates several sisal plantations in the Tanga region - one of the country's main sisal production areas - where the sisal produced is also processed into semi-finished products (raw sisal). Only a small portion of the sisal plant is used. The remainder is dumped as waste or incinerated, even though this waste still contains valuable energy and residual streams. This offers significant opportunities for utilising/upgrading the sisal waste stream into useful products such as biogas, but also as raw material for animal feed or industrial applications (e.g., pectin), organic fertiliser, and biochar.
