Assessment of EnDev's Access to Finance Activities

About this project

This assignment assesses part of the Access to Finance portfolio under the Energising Development (EnDev) programme.EnDev delivers modern energy technologies and services to households, social institutions, and (micro-,) small- and medium-sized ((M)SMEs) in developing countries. Using a market-based approach, the programme works toward self-supporting energy markets and long-lasting impact. SMEs in the renewable energy access sector play a key role in this by developing the supply side of the market.Despite existing business development and investor readiness support, (M)SMEs often struggle to raise finance. Traditional financial institutions tend to focus on larger transactions due to high overheads, while local microfinance institutions face limited sector knowledge and high transaction costs, driving up credit costs.Access to Finance is therefore a core element of EnDev, committed to developing approaches that help energy access enterprises secure the financing they need to grow. This assignment assesses part of that portfolio.
