About this project

The purpose of the project is to improve the efficiency of water use for 1,442 members of the cooperative of vegetable producers (URCooPMa). Efficient irrigation, storing water from the rainy season, better production techniques and higher sale prices will be combined to achieve more income from less water. The project will support CSF-Benin to become a professional service provider in irrigation equipment, throughout its commercial partnership with URCooPMa. CSF will manufacture, sell and install innovative technologies like solar pumps, rainmakers and drip kits, adapted to the farmers’ needs. The project will further realise new infrastructure to improve water storing capacities and water mobilisation, within an overall approach of integrated water resources management (IWRM) which will be supported by Protos. This will allow extension of the cultivated area and of the growing season. The project will support the public-private partnership (PPP) between the five communes and CSF/ESOP. The commune of Djougou will play a leading role in the development of the PPP, with agreements on co-financing water infrastructure. The payment of annual contributions by the farmers will ensure the maintenance of the infrastructure. Female vegetable producers will increase their income by higher surface, yields and better sale prices and raise their autonomy.
