About this project

As the mandated government agency, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) of Moldova plays a crucial role in safeguarding food safety and quality and animal health and welfare in Moldova and complying with European and international standards. However, ANSA faces several challenges in performing this role including lack of capacity, inefficiencies in its regulatory framework and lack of awareness of international standards. This reflects negatively on the level of food safety and quality and animal health and welfare in the country and undercuts the competitiveness of Moldovan businesses on the domestic and foreign markets as well as the country’s attractiveness as a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination. The purpose of the proposed project is therefore to strengthen ANSA in the performance of its official duties regarding safeguarding food safety and quality, animal health and welfare and consumer protection in the food sector.
