About this project
The Rwandan government aims to reduce the number of households dependent on traditional cooking technologies with fifty percent by 2024, and has developed a Biomass Energy Strategy to reduce the amount of solid biomass used in Rwanda. This project aims to create a thriving pellet cooking ecosystem in Rwanda, and the African continent at large. This impact cluster will in the coming three years set up a pellet-fuel ecosystem, by growing and disseminating knowledge to local pellet and cook stove producers and by identifying and establishing financial instruments (e.g. carbon credits, pre-financing streams and de-risking instruments) that can be used to achieve further growth for all players involved. The primary beneficiaries of this impact cluster are pellet producers, local cookstove companies and other entrepreneurs across the value chain who gain access to technology, finance, and an overall functioning pellet eco-system.
