About this project

This impact cluster is centred on making a positive impact on the dairy sector in Kenya. The need for intervention begins on the demand side for milk, specifically with the company Bio Food Products. Bio Food Products is a producer of premium dairy products in Kenya and is the only processor that can guarantee its products meet European standards, which includes meeting the standards for maximum allowable levels aflatoxin and antibiotics. To empower its farmers to supply the required quality and quantity of milk, Bio Food Products collaborates with Bles Dairies, which provides advanced dairy farm advisory services, particularly in cow nutrition, cow reproduction and new Dutch technologies to further support the farm in nutrition and reproduction management. Moving down the value chain, Bles Dairies depends on feed suppliers to prepare concentrates tailored to the unique needs of farmers, ensuring they are also free of aflatoxin. In Kenya, two feed suppliers committed to offering such feed concentrates (dairy meal) are Unga and Maxim. With the Africa Bioenergy Program Limited (ABPL) on board, biogas installations will be part of a future proof business model for farmers. Hence, the project is able to offer total solutions to the farmers, including technology, services, training and better business models for the farmers. There will be a focus on the profitability for farmers, pre-financing possibilities and introduction of improvements of their current business.
