About this project

The project “Precision Feeding and Farming for the Independent Poultry Farmer in India” — a collaboration between De Heus Animal Nutrition, VDL, Pas Reform, and Manreet Hatchery — aims to empower independent Indian poultry farmers with the knowledge, skills, and technologies needed to improve efficiency, productivity, and biosecurity while reducing waste and energy use. By strengthening sustainable poultry farming practices, the project contributes to long-term, resilient market development in India’s poultry sector.The core of the project is the establishment of a broiler demonstration facility in Punjab, which will serve as a hub for practical training, on-farm trials, diagnostics, technical seminars, and awareness campaigns. Dutch and local technologies will be showcased side-by-side to provide evidence-based, context-relevant solutions. This "seeing is believing" approach is designed to build local trust, facilitate the adoption of precision feeding, improve farm management, and reduce the use of antibiotics — ultimately enhancing animal health, food safety, and profitability.In the long term, the project aims to generate stable employment, strengthen business models, and support durable knowledge transfer through a network of trained master trainers and farmers. By addressing key barriers such as low awareness of biosecurity and limited local proof of concept, the project supports sector-wide professionalisation and sustainable growth.
