About this project
GreenSourced aims to strengthen the emerging horticulture sector in Embalenhle, Mpumalanga, South Africa by combining practical farmer development with water-smart technologies and improved market access. A locally embedded AgriHub at the Middelbult site will demonstrate GreenSource rainwater harvesting and water treatment, BluElephant decentralised wastewater treatment and reuse, and capillary irrigation, integrated with regenerative agriculture, a digital farmer-development platform, a nursery, packhouse and marketplace.During the project, 300 emerging farmers will be mapped and profiled, 200 high potential farmers will receive practical field training, 120 will participate in intensive cohort-based GreenSourced training, and 20 are targeted to progress to pre-commercial farming based on performance, access to land and financing. Local staff and value-chain entrepreneurs will also develop skills in operation, maintenance, aggregation, quality control and market services. The project aims to improve farmer productivity, bankability, market access and resilience to water scarcity while creating sustainable enterprise and employment opportunities. After the subsidy period, the AgriHub is intended to continue as a training, production and market facility and provide a replicable model for productive post-mining land use and local economic development.
