About this project
The horticulture sector in Ethiopia has significant economic potential, yet it faces major challenges in workforce development. A key cause explaining the challenges is the disconnect between educational institutions and labor market needs, resulting in educational institutes on both university and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) levels delivering graduates who lack the skills required by the industry. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to establish a Sector Skills Council to facilitate dialogue and collaboration between the public, private and education sector and other stakeholders and to co-create solutions for improving horticultural education and training in the country’s horticulture sector. In this way the project aims to lay the groundwork for systemic improvements in skills development, ensuring that future interventions — such as curriculum reforms and training programs — are based on a shared vision and industry demand.
