About this project
This project supports Indonesia in developing a Smart Innovative Water Management (SIWM) approach for lowland irrigation areas, particularly in Sumatra and Kalimantan. It will combine irrigation, drainage, salinity and flood management with climate-resilient infrastructure, digital monitoring, nature-based solutions, effective governance and local operational capacity. The project will map relevant technologies and practices, identify opportunities to integrate SIWM into the Optimized Lowland Irrigation for Food Security (OLIFS) programme, assess potential pilot locations and prepare high-level plans for one or two pilot projects. These plans will include implementation arrangements, indicative costs, monitoring and evaluation, and pathways for scaling. The project is implemented within the bilateral water cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands and aims to contribute to improved agricultural productivity, food security, climate resilience and sustainable management of Indonesia’s lowlands.
