NBS support for ADB on Candaba swamp and San Antonio Swamp

About this project

In its Thematic Approach, Partners for Water 2022-2027 gives specific attention to the uptake and implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for increased water safety and security. In 2023 a strategic partnership was signed with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the form of a Letter of Intent (LoI), to support the ADB and its member countries with expertise and technical support on NbS during the project preparation phase. This assignment is part of this partnership.The ADB is working with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippines, in the preparation of the Enhanced Integrated Flood Resilience and Improvement Investment Program (the program). The first tranche of the program is proposed for approval in 2027.The proposed investment program will improve climate resilience in the Apayao-Abulug and Pampanga river basins in Luzon, the Jalaur river basin in Visayas, and the Buayan-Malungon river basin in Mindanao. The program will (i) introduce innovations to improve water resources data management, planning, and early flood warning to communities; (ii) develop flood protection and water storage infrastructure towards increased water resilience, strengthen processes for operation and maintenance (O&M) for improving sustainability of water infrastructure, and facilitate timely acquisition of right-of-way (ROW); and (iii) introduce watershed management measures to restore ecosystems functions of the upper basins, including erosion control and improved wa…
