About this project
The Urban Demonstrators Initiative for Climate and Water Resilient Urban Infrastructure in Bangladesh – Second Cycle aims to scale people- and nature-centric on-site water solutions across eight additional pourashavas (municipalities).Building on two successful pilot sites, the project applies a fast-tracked, community-driven methodology – Urban Demonstrators (UDs) – to enhance climate resilience, livability, and inclusive governance in rapidly urbanising towns.Through small-scale, co-created interventions using locally sourced materials and workforce, the project addresses urgent water-related challenges while fostering ownership, sustainability, and peer learning. UDs focus on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for stormwater management, public space revitalisation, and local employment. Pourashavas contribute in-kind and financial resources, while a mobile platform ensures transparency and community feedback for long-term operation and maintenance (O&M).This second cycle targets vertical upscaling of the UD model to six to eight pourashavas, complemented by a roadmap for broader replication (horizontal upscaling) and strategic engagement with international financiers and national authorities. A robust enabling environment will be created through local capacity development, O&M planning, and a city-to-city learning network.Ultimately, the project contributes to breaking the Build-Neglect-Rebuild (BNR) cycle and supports alignment between community-led action and national goals,…
