About this project

Kenya is facing accelerating climate impacts along its coastline - rising sea temperatures and declining fish stocks are threatening traditional livelihoods. Seaweed farming is upcoming in Kenya making the coastal communities more resilient and introduces opportunities for women. Kenyans only use the bottom-rope method, which is limiting in Kenya due to the tide, heavy transport and long drying times. The TransWeeder is a locally build vessel that enables seaweed farming in deeper waters and includes onboard drying techniques. The project partners' process will be integrated into current supply chain where they will work closely with the Kibuyuni Seaweed Farmers Cooperative.
