SPVO – Nuts about Blossoming

About this project

The Nuts about Blossoming project is implemented in the regions of Hauts-Bassins and Cascades in Burkina Faso. The project aims to strengthen the social, environmental, and economic sustainability of the businesses of cashew producers and producer organisations (POs). In the southwest of Burkina Faso, cashew production offers important income opportunities for smallholder farmers and their families due to its relatively low input costs and limited maintenance requirements. At the same time, producers and supply chain actors face structural constraints that limit the full realisation of this potential, including small farm sizes, climate variability, market pressures, and social inclusion challenges. Strengthening occupational safety, promoting women’s participation in decision-making, preventing child labour risks, and supporting environmentally sustainable production practices remain important priorities within the sector. To create sustainable change in the supply chain, the involvement of the various supply chain actors is crucial to create mutually beneficial supply chain conditions. The established supply chain partnership between Anatrans and Nuts2 offers a strong foundation to set an example of a transparent and sustainable cashew supply chain built on long-term collaboration.
