About this project

The aim of this project is sustainable recovery ('building back better') of the operations of the 0.8 ha greenhouse in in the West of Ukraine, that will enable the enterprise to overcome the consequences of interrupted electricity supply that was caused by rocket shelling in 2022.As result of the project, the greenhouse will supply vegetables for the local market all year-round in a more energy efficient way. This project aims at creating a more resilient, energy efficient and sustainable greenhouse production, specifically through:1. Introducing and integrating energy efficient technology into the hydroponic lettuce production in the greenhouse, enabling the use of residual heat (equivalent to 200,000 m3 of gas per year) and the use of waste CO2 to accelerate photosynthesis (transforming waste CO2 into energy/green mass);2. Enhancing energy saving technology for the current greenhouse (LED lights and screens) to reduce energy consumption by 40%; and3. Construction of a vertical farm in the existing service area, to optimally align the operations, create more net area in the existing greenhouse for later stage growth of lettuce, and thus increasing production capacity by 25% or 450,000 heads of lettuce annually. Five new permanent jobs will be created consequently for women and youth.
