Regional Exchange and Collaboration: BRCS & ZRCS

About this project

Following online consultation and meetings during the first half of 2025, Botswana Red Cross Society (BRCS), Zambia Red Cross Society (ZRCS) and NLRC discussed the possibility of organizing a reciprocal regional exchange of technical knowledge, experiences, and insights can be facilitated between BRCS and ZRCS. By focusing on core technical expertise areas of both BRCS and ZRCS (such as Water, Climate, Environment, Response Preparedness, Anticipatory Action, etc.), such an exchange will build upon ongoing projects, programming and initiatives (such as the Community Based Disaster Risk Management symposium previously organized by BRCS). In addition to the exchange visit, partners discussed the opportunity to include implementing (NSD) activities/ elements into the proposal as well. These are specifically linked to NbS / WwN programming. Following a NSD workshop earlier this year in Gaborone (facilitated by IFRC and British RC), one of the outcomes was that involved NSs (including both BRCS and ZRCS) would like to strengthen tree planting and care through development of tree nurseries at the branches. Therefore, as this is within the strategic direction of both National Societies, BRCS and ZRCS aim to include the development of two tree nurseries at two local branches. This will include Tlokweng branch in Botswana and Choma branch in Zambia.
