About this project

Building Rural Income through inclusive Dairy business Growth in Ethiopia (BRIDGE+) is a follow-up of BRIDGE program, financed by EKN Ethiopia and implemented by a consortium led by SNV with Agriterra and Wageningen University & Research as partners. BRIDGE+ aims to accompany the take off of the dairy value chain in Ethiopia, benefiting 350,000 smallholder dairy farmers and 4 million consumers, including 1 million schoolchildren located in 10 regions of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Amhara, Diredawa, Harar, Oromiya, Sidama, South Central, South Shoa, South West and Tigray). BRIDGE+ goal is to create an inclusive and sustainable dairy value chain that benefits all its participants, with a focus on smallholder farmers within the mixed farming system. While Agriterra was an implementing partner in the first phase of BRIDGE, due to its increased strategic role it is now consortium partner in BRIDGE+. Agriterra will be focusing on building capacities of the primary cooperatives, with particular attention for management and governance, with as specific target increasing the role of women in cooperative leadership; both private sector providers and government agents will be increasingly mobilised in this approach. Agriterra will also enhance the strategic role of cooperatives within the sector (policy influencing) and in the later stages of this phase start providing support to unions (if appropriate).
