About this project
The supporting vulnerable youth to develop sustainable micro- and small businesses for enhanced resilience and economic integration in the West Nile region project seeks to accelerate the start-up and growth of youth-led micro and small enterprises in Uganda’s West Nile region, specifically in Yumbe, Terego, and Arua districts. Despite various skilling initiatives, many young people, both refugees and host community members, struggle to transition their skills into sustainable businesses due to limited access to finance, weak market linkages, inadequate business knowledge, and the growing impact of climate change. Implemented by Cordaid in partnership with Caritas Arua Diocese, the 24-month action targets 500 vulnerable youth (60% female; 50% refugees) through a combination of reskilling, business development support, and inclusive access to finance and markets. Focusing on key value chains such as horticulture, poultry, apiary, simsim, sunflower, and cassava, the project will strengthen youth entrepreneurship, promote climate-smart and sustainable agribusiness, and enhance economic resilience and self-reliance in refugee-hosting communities.
