About this project

This programme addresses the issues that majority of tea smallholders in Java and oil palm smallholders in West Kalimantan produce in highly chemically intensive monoculture; degrading soils are harming farms' productivity per hectare, while production costs are high and the European Union Deforestation Regulation will require detailed further threatening them from exclusion from EU value chains. Through the interventions in this programme we support the uptake of better farming, namely regenerative practices, to achieve better yields and incomes as well as better working conditions and reduced environmental damage. We establish and incubate knowledge and service support hubs and enterprises that provide inputs, knowledge, ICT tools, credit and market access at scale to producers. In doing so, we foresee creating new rural jobs for women and youth and connecting producers to companies that are willing to pay for regenerative agriculture. In the progamme we use Soli-Trace, a traceability mechanism, to create new product lines and we extend support to companies to develop and implement traceability schemes to verify sustainable sourcing practices. In addition, we support producers to access carbon markets and facilitate payment for ecosystem services.
