Pathways to Prosperity - Peru

About this project

In this programme we will address the issues that in Peru, coffee and oil palm production is characterised by low productivity, limited competitiveness and meagre incomes resulting in farmers expanding agricultural lands into forests, contributing to deforestation and climate change. Lack of technical assistance, training and tools hinder producer's opportunities to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to produce crops sustainably and efficiently let alone meet minimum sustainability conditions imposed by markets and governments such as the European Union Deforestation Regulation. This further discourages investment in sustainable production practices. Our long-term vision is to achieve sector-wide climate-smart agriculture adoption, where coffee and palm oil producers thrive within economically profitable, socially responsible, and environmentally sound supply chains. To accomplish this, our project in Peru will scale climate-smart agriculture and deforestation-free production models. These models aim to reduce pressure on tropical forests through climate-smart practices that improve productivity, reduce emissions, and adapt to climate change. In Peru, what the project seeks is the transformation of the coffee and palm sectors towards sustainability, through the concertation towards common objectives of public and private actors and civil society.
