About this project
The Mesoamerican mixed forest bio-region is a climate-vulnerability hotspot. Climate-smart farming practices such as cultivating plant variaties that can withstand the new climatic conditions, planting shade trees, the responsible use of pesticides, and good land and water management can significantly enhance farmers' resilience in this region. This contributes to raising productivity, while allowing for carbon sequestration, which forms an interesting source of income for smallholder farmers. In this programme, smallholder farmers across the Mesoamerican region will be supported to adopt climate-smart farming practices such as agro-forestry and so increase their resilience to climate change effects. We will mobilise local service providers to give the farmers the support they need and access to the necessary inputs and materials over the long term. With partners, we will develop incentives that promote the further adoption of climate-smart practices at scale.
