About this project
In this programme we work on institutionalizing "Kvuno", a decentralised digital service model that lowers the cost of providing last-mile services such as access to certified seed, soil analysis, post harvest services and market connections for smallholder cotton farmers in Zambia. "Kvuno" utilises a range of digital tools to develop smart farming service packages, integrating innovative and low-cost deployment strategies, leveraging youth and community networks, and aggregating and ethically monetizing data. Through the interventions of the programme we link small scale producers to input and service providers and markets. Farmers are supported to comply with market requirements through partnerships with other civil society organisations. In addition, we support livestock rangers to boost production and yields by providing direct support and climate-smart agricultural practices and post-harvesting techniques through creating value addition and creating a stronger extension network in leather processing. We introduce and support the adoption of sustainable livestock practices including good health practices and selective breeding, improved pasture management, enhanced carbon sequestration in grazing areas and other areas. The programme also boosts the capacity of service providers.
