About this project
The African Food Systems Transformation (AFST) cluster operates in Africa and follows a business-led approach to contribute to the Better Jobs, Better Incomes, Gender Equality, and Better Environment impact themes. The BU aligns with IDH's Africa Food Systems Transformation Strategy with the following vision:Transform food value chains into economically viable, inclusive, and resilient ones that contribute to improved food and nutrition security; create local economic value and support increased regional trade in Africa.By “inclusive”, we refer to the inclusion of smallholder farmers, SMEs, and other disadvantaged and excluded groups (e.g., women and youth) in formal value chains.By “resilient value chains”, we refer to adopting climate-adaptive and regenerative production practices, and value chain players and practices that support these practices.By “creating local economic value,” we are increasing value addition and processing in Africa, increasing incomes, and creating employment for youth and women.
