About this project
The Igarapé Institute is proposing a new project between 2023-2025 that is focused on strengthening the rule of law and enabling sustainable development to drive zero deforestation. The Institute will achieve this through a combination of research, strategic advocacy, and communication. The Institute is committed to producing high quality research that shapes policy and programming. To this end, the Institute supports the generation of data and analysis that informs evidence-based policy formation and verifies policy outcomes. During the next phase of the partnership with Norway, the Igarape Institute will scale-up its activities with public, private, and civil society partners by leveraging actionable insight and capacity support. The new project will have three main goals. The first goal is to make disrupting environmental crime in the Legal Amazon a national, political, operational, and budgetary priority. A second goal is to expand Brazilian leadership on the issue of fighting environmental crime at the regional and international levels by internationalizing the issue of environmental crime in the Amazon. The third goal involves building national and international multi-stakeholder coalitions devoted to fighting environmental crime in the Legal Amazon and actively promoting sustainable development solutions in the region. The new project purposefully builds on the lessons learned from the Institute’s past work on mapping environmental crime dynamics and awareness raising…
